Alice Louisa Hauptfuehrer, eldest child of Daniel Hauptfuehrer 1836-1874 and Magdalena (Vogelgesang) 1840-1920, was born 12 Feb 1862 in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. She is found in her parents' home in Canton in the 1870 census for Daniel Hauptfire (sic). Alice's father died in 1874 and she went to live with her mother's brother and his family. Alice, age 18, is documented in the 1880 census in Forreston, Ogle, Illinois in the home of Isaac and Delilah Voglesang (sic). Also in that census is the infant Elta (the maternal grandmother of this researcher). Per Vogelgesang family records, Isaac and Delilah adopted Alice after her father's death and she lived with them until her marriage to Rev. Franklin Clarence Neitz 22 Jun 1887. Alice and her husband went as missionaries to Japan sometime after her passport was issued 13 Jan 1890. [National Archives and Records Administration (NARA); Washington D.C.; Passport Applications, 1795-1905; Collection Number: ARC Identifier 566612 / MLR Number A1 508; NARA Series: M1372; Roll #: 342.] Alice and Frank Neitz's only child Clarence was born in Japan 31 May 1891. [World War I Draft Registration Card]. Per family records of Elta Vogelgesang Forkel Alice died 3 Feb 1892 of small pox in Japan. She was buried in Aoyama Cemetery in Tokyo.

Alice's widower Frank Neitz, born 14 Feb 1865 in Naperville, DuPage, Il remarried in 1893 to Lydia with whom he had other children. [1900 Census: Cleveland Ward 23, Cuyahoga, Ohio; Roll: 1256; Page: 11B; Enumeration District: 0117; FHL microfilm: 1241256]. He died 3 Apr 1928 in Los Angeles, California. [California Death Index].
