Gary Lee Claude, 70, of Jewell, died Friday, May 20th, 2016 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation will be held Wednesday May 25th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Community Church in Kamrar. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Church in Kamrar with Pastor Peter Mueller officiating. Burial at Community Church Cemetery will follow the services.
Gary Lee Claude was born May 13, 1946, at Mary Greeley Memorial Hospital in Ames, Iowa. The son of Betty Lou Claude. He graduated from Jewell Schools in 1964. Gary and Colleen Mortenson were married on October 6, 1972 in Blairsburg, IA. Gary worked for Hunzinger Construction for several years before owning and operating South Hamilton Construction, building several houses in the Jewell area. Later he and Colleen ran North Gate DX in Jewell for 15 years. He spent a few years working for Greenfield Farms and retired from Prairieland Coop in Ellsworth.
Gary was a member of the Wednesday Night Car Club and at one time a member of the Jewell Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed motorcycling, snowmobiling, and bowling with his wife Colleen. He also enjoyed going to auctions, processing scrap metal and repairing firearms in his shop at the family farm. He was an avid John Wayne fan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty and grandparents, Harry and Mabel Claude.
