Master Sergeant Howard was born November 11, 1944, in Andrews, a son of the late John Pratt Howard and the late Getty H. Howard.
Before retiring, he served 27 years in the US Army. He received numerous awards and accommodations including the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Awards, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Battle Stars.
He was a member of the Six Mile Crossing Church of God.
John and Sandra were married on February 2, 1972, and celebrated 44 years together. Their home was blessed with three children, Jason (Renee) Howard, Amanda H. (Kelly) Cannon, and Dennis Howard; and five grandchildren, Austin, Joshua, Ethan, Morgan, and Addison. He is also survived by a sister, Nina Pope.
He was predeceased by his parents; two children, Dennis and Leslie; two brothers, Jackie Howard and Elwood Howard; and three sisters, Doris Howell, Joann Blackwell, and Nora Howard.
Funeral services with full Military Honors were Wednesday, May 25, 2016, in Andrews First Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Rev. Keith Hicks officiated. Burial, directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home, followed in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
