Springville--Bobby Joe Phillips, 54, 1508 Popcorn Road, Springville, Indiana died, (Friday) May 5, 2006, at 3:50 p.m. at Bloomington Hospital, after an illness with cancer.
Born in Delta (Wayne County) Kentucky, he was the son of Owen William and Lela Ann (Jones) Phillips. He married Nancy Sue Summitt on June 19, 1970 in Kirksville (Monroe County) Indiana, and she survives.
Bobby Joe Phillips was employed at many area stone quarries including Victor Oolitic, Dark Hollow, Elliott Stone Quarry, and the last 14 years with Indiana Limestone Co., Ooiltic, IN. where he was a drill runner. He was a member of Local 741 Laborers and Hodcarriers.
Surviving with the wife is one son, Jeffery Wayne Phillips, at home. Also surviving in one brother, Rev. Ray Phillips and his wife Brenda of Mitchell, IN; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Bell and her husband Preston and Mrs. Zula Bell and her husband Roy, all of Springville, IN. One loving dog, Trixie, will miss him dearly. Bobby Joe was loved and admired by his large family who survive, uncles, brothers, and sisters-in-law, and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Delmar, Arthur, and Junior Phillips; two sisters Develda Phillips and Mary Velma Egger.
Pallbearers will be Teddy Summitt, Wendell Bell, Lloyd Phillips, Roger Keith, Jacob Bell, and Mike Wampler.
Funeral services will be on Monday, May 8, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford, Indiana, with Rev. Randy Martin officiating. Burial will be in Springville Cemetery West, Springville, Indiana.
Family and friends may call at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home today from 4 to 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. Monday until the service hour.
