From gathered family information Frances Helen was born in Austin, Texas and at the age of 5 was given away to a stranger headed to Portland and put in a Foster home. Her mother gave her away because she was a half-breed, but her inheritance was more important than her child. I was told her surname might have been DeOrgra or something similar and was a prominent family who regarded their reputation over scandal. So my great-grandmother, at such a young age, was taken away to live with strangers far from her native home. She spent time with several foster families when she finally was adopted into a Jordan family who raised her as their own until she married Jacob Hickman.

I tried several times to contact her real parents family in Austin, and was met with hostility and hung up on. Her birth records we no longer reachable because the records caught fire at the health records office.

Her husband Jacob and her had one daughter, a girl, and named her Jessie Mae Alice Doris Hickman, my grandmother. Both were soft spoken and beautiful strong women and wonderful grandmothers.
