Jane was born into slavery and escaped an abusive Master names Mr. Ingersoll in Lenox, MA. She sought safetly in Stockbridge and petitioned a man named Theodore Sedgwick, a lawyer and later a Congressman who fought a well known Massachusetts Supreme court case achieving the freedom of a slave woman names Elizabeth Freeman known as "Mum Bett". Sedgwick was able to gain the freedom for Jane and she later became Agrippa's wife. She was known as "a woman of excellent character and made a profession of her faith in Christ"
