UNION - James Delano Burnett, 64, of 1517 Old Buncombe Road died Oct. 29, 1997, in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness.

A native of Union, he was a son of Electa Johnson Burnett of Union and the late Roy Conway Burnett.

He was a graduate of Cross Anchor High School Class of 1951 and was retired owner/operator of Burnett's Logging. He was a veteran of U.S. Army and was a former race car driver, having raced on tracks in South Carolina and Georgia. He was a Methodist.

Also survivors are two daughters, Wanda B. Rice of Enoree and Kathy B. Stone of Union; a brother, Daniel C. Burnett of Buffalo; and a grandson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Padgett's Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Melvin Hudson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
