Jeffersonville, GA- Robert Gray Asbell, 94, passed away May 17, 2016 in Dublin, GA.
Funeral services will be held Friday May 20, 2016 at 2 pm in the Jeffersonville Baptist Church. Burial will be held in the Jeffersonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the funeral home. Rev. Charles Asbell, Rev. Doug Harris and Rev. Robert Rogers will be officiating.
Mr. Asbell was born in Jeffersonville to the late Emmett Asbell, Sr. and Ella Johnson Asbell. He was retired from J.M. Huber and was a member of the Jeffersonville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Asbell was also a founding member and former Chief of the Jeffersonville Volunteer Fire Department, and was an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by his wife Willa Mae Pope Asbell, sisters, Mary Gratteau and Winifred McKinney; brothers, Eugene , Olin, Eustace, Elton and Emmett "Dick" Asbell. Mr. Asbell served his country in World War II in the United States Army in the 38th infantry division.
Survivors include his children, Earl (Jane) Asbell, Steve (Sandra) Asbell, Sybil Asbell (Johnny) Newby Frankie (Melinda) Asbell, Susan Asbell (John) Kitchens. Grandchildren, Vicki (Chris) Clayton, Ash (Amanda) Asbell, Heath (Leigh) Asbell, Inger Asbell, Nathan (Stephanie) Newby, Caleb Kitchens, Megan (John) Tucker and Seth Kitchens; 15 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren.
