C.C. Carson, 88, longtime Jefferson City businessman and civic leader, died Saturday afternoon at the Windsor, Mo., hospital.

He was hospitalized Friday afternoon for injuries suffered in a fall. For the past year Mr. Carson and his wife have lived at a Windsor rest home.

Mr. Carson came to Jefferson City in 1902 from St. Louis and founded the Central Broom Company. In 1937 he became proprietor of the Dawson brick Yard and operated both businesses until his retirement in February of 1959.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Board of trustees and Board of Stewards. He taught in the Methodist Sunday School and was Sunday School superintendent for 30 years. The church's education building, "Carson Hall" is named for the Carson family.

Mr. Carson was a charter member of the Jefferson City Rotary Club; past president of the Chamber of Commerce; chairman of the Community Chest campaign for eight years and director for 20 years; and a member of the Jefferson City School Board from 1920-1923. During World War II he was district OPA director and field supervisor of the State Civilian Defense Council.

Mr. Carson was born in Reynolds, Ind., Dec. 24, 1872, the son of William B. and Ella Cartwell Carson. He attended public schools in Reynolds, Ind. and St. Louis.

On February 19, 1902, he was married to Miss Hannah B. Waite, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Ruth and Mary Carson and Mrs. L.W. Reynolds; three sons, Paul, Charles and Forrest; and two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Pearce and Mrs. Fred E. Allison.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at the First Methodist Church with burial in Riverview Cemetery.
