Martin was baptized on March 29, 1899 at St. Andrew's Church in Calumet City, Illinois. He lived most of his life with his parents. After the deaths of his parents he moved in to a nursing home. In 1971 he was living at Medical Care Facilities in Duluth, Minnesota. He never married.
He had a couple of different jobs in his life, in 1918 he was working as a janitor with the Reid Murdock Manufacturing Company. He also worked for a while for the rail road.
Martin passed away on Sept. 8, 1993 at the Chris Jensen Nursing Home in Duluth where he lived.
