Jason J. Lee was born December 29, 1840 in Barbour County, Alabama to Evander and Susan Lee. When he was nine years old, his parents moved to Sumter County, Florida, near Adamsville. In 1857, the family moved to a rural area near Lake Griffin and homesteaded there. He and his family were one of the earliest citrus farmers in that area. His father opened a store, and when goods were ordered, without a township to ship to, he told them to send it to “Leesburg”. Today, Leesburg, Florida is a city of over 20,000.

On November 9, 1861, Jason Lee joined the Confederate Army at Cedar Key, Florida. He enlisted in Company G of the Florida 4th Infantry.

Jason participated in numerous duties and battles as part of the Florida 4th. He was mortally wounded on September 20, 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga. He was part of Stovall's Brigade that flanked the Union position which ended one of the costliest battles of the Civil War.

Jason died six days later on September 26, 1863. There are no records of his burial, but he is most likely buried at (or near) Chickamauga National Battlefield, Georgia.
