Peggy Wyrosdick McConnell, age 86, of Kingston, TN passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Harriman Care and Rehab Facility in Harriman, TN. Peggy was born December 13, 1929 in Piedmont, SC to Bernard (Lefty) and Violet Jeannette Bryson Wyrosdick. She was a graduate of Piedmont High School and Draughn’s Business College. She was married 46 years to Homer E. McConnell, Jr. of Piedmont, S.C. Active in International Sorority Beta Sigma Phi; Executive Secretary in the Public Information Office for the Department of Energy, Oak Ridge, Tennessee for 30 years. She and Homer were avid Clemson supporters, attending all home games. Five scholarships in their name continue to be maintained yearly at the University. She was a charter member of the Roane Choral Society and Southwest Point Golf Club. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Kingston where she was a youth leader, an event organizer and church archivist. She played piano and sang in the choir for decades. She and her husband loved to travel and enjoyed entertaining many friends in their home. Peggy was an outgoing, cheerful person, and was a joy to all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Survived by cousins Jane Walker of Travelers Rest, S.C.; Margaret Ann Smith of Titusville, FL.
Graveside service 3 pm Thursday May 19, 2016 at Greenville Memorial Gardens in Piedmont, S.C. with Dr. Thomas DeVenny officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7pm Thursday May 26, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Kingston followed by a Celebration of Life at 7pm with Rev. Tommy Taylor officiating.
