Joseph Carlos "Joe" Bunce

1928 - 2016

Early Life: Joseph was born October 12, 1928, in Mountain Home, Utah, to Irvin D. Bunce and Maude West Bunce. He grew up on a dairy farm milking 32 dairy cows by hand, twice a day. He had many other farm related chores including farming with horse-drawn equipment.

Life's Work | Service | Interests: He married Nilda Beth Talbot and they had seven children. They later divorced. He married Marilyn Robinson on December 16, 1981, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Joe and his family moved to Moab, Utah, and lived there on the family farm until 1945 when he joined the Merchant Marines at the close of World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After his release from service, he joined his family in Springville, Utah, where they had moved while he serving. Joe had many occupations throughout his life. He obtained employment with Geneva Steel and also worked at the Ironton Steel Plant where he served as union president. Joe also owned and operated nursing homes in Salt Lake City and Provo for many years. Joe was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching and attending football, basketball and baseball games. He coached his sons' Little League teams for many years. He loved hunting and fishing, especially in the company of his family. Joseph Carlos "Joe" Bunce, of Springville, Utah, died May 10, 2016, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center as a result of a fall at home. He was 88.

Survived By: His wife, Marilyn Robinson; his seven children: Rick Bunce (Christine), of Gentry, AK; Brad Bunce (Cindy), of Springville, UT; Kim Bunce (Sandy), of Redmond, UT; Alan Bunce (Betty), of Taylorsville, UT; Carla Sherwood (Marty), of Missouri; Joseph Bunce (Mary), of Salt Lake City, UT; Karen Russell (Boyd), of Spanish Fork, UT; 23 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
