Dorothy Barnwell Kerrison of Charleston found her peace with the Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2016. The relatives and friends of Dorothy Barnwell Kerrison are invited to attend her Funeral service at 10:30AM, Friday, April 8, 2016, at St. Philip's Church, 142 Church Street, followed by a reception in the parish hall. The family will receive friends at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, on Thursday, April 7, 2016, between 5:00 & 7:00 PM. A graveside service for family shall follow at a later date. Her Guestbook may be signed at www.charlestonfunerals.com.

Born Dorothy Lea Barnwell in Burlington, North Carolina on February 16, 1938 to James Alexander Barnwell and Cornelia Vincent Barnwell, Dottie attended Sweet Briar College, where she competed for the equestrian team and graduated in 1960. Following graduation, Dottie married Horry Heriot Kerrison, MD on September 3, 1960 and settled in Charleston shortly thereafter to raise their three sons, Horry Heriot Kerrison, Jr., John Barnwell Kerrison and Lea Barnwell Kerrison. Dottie treasured her time with family and loved her church, serving many years on the Alter Guild and the Flower Guild and organizing many benefit plantation and house tours. She held active memberships in Middleton Place Hounds, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, South Carolina, including as a board member, and the Junior League of Charleston. She also served as board member for the Roper Foundation, the Historic Charleston Foundation, the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired - Charleston and the Preservation Society of Charleston.

Surviving Dottie are her husband, her sons, John and Lea, her brother, James Alexander Barnwell, Jr., and her cousin, Nancy Jane Iseley, who Dottie loved as a sister. Also surviving Dottie are her three daughters-in-law, Elizabeth Pierpoint Kerrison, Marnie Lewis Kerrison and Hunter Harmon Kerrison, along with her eight grandchildren, Dorothy Adair Kerrison, Elizabeth MacQueen Kerrison, Horry Heriot Kerrison, III, Alexandra Jane Kerrison, Caroline Hermena Kerrison, John Barnwell Kerrison, Jr., Legare Elizabeth Kerrison and Harmon Lea Kerrison, and countless wonderful friends.
