Sister Mary Frances came to New Orleans in 1915, when Xavier was first established as a high school on Magazine Street, serving as the first directess of the school. She remained at Xavier for 33 years.
In 1917, Sister Mary Frances inaugurated the Xavier Normal School to prepare students for the teaching profession, a school she headed until 1925, when a four year Teachers College was established. She served as dean of this college until 1930.
From 1934 to 1942, she was chairman of the classical language department after the school reached university status and moved to its current location at Pine and Palmetto streets.
Sister Mary Frances was named university dean in 1942, a position she held until 1950.
She also served as directess of the Xavier Alumni Association from 1917 to 1942.
Two masses will be said for her, one at the Motherhouse, and one at Xavier University Chapel, the latter being celebrated by the Rev. Moses B. Anderson, S.S.E., director of religious affairs at the University.
