Cecil was born September 22, 1914, northwest of Hydro, Oklahoma, to James K. and Effie V. (McFarlin) Jones and passed away Monday, May 2, 2016 at Corn Heritage Village of Weatherford. Cecil was raised and lived in Oklahoma all of his life. He attended school at Hopewell Rural School and graduated from Hydro High School in 1932. Cecil earned a Bachelor degree from Southwestern State College and his Master’s degree from Phillips University. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp. On June 8, 1941, Cecil married Zola Mae Rust and made their home in the Hydro area. He was an educator for 41 years, teaching and later becoming the school Principal of Sunset Elementary School in Altus, Oklahoma where he was the last 22 years before retiring in 1979.
Cecil is survived by his son, Gary R. Jones of Lake Charles, Louisiana; a daughter, Connie Bays and husband, Don of Aurora, Colorado; his two grandchildren, Kimberly M. (Bays) Buchold of Castle Rock, Colorado and Jon K. Bays of Aurora, Colorado; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Zach Buchold and Alexander and Anastasia Bays. He was preceded in death by his parents, James K. and Effie V. Jones; his wife of 61 years, Zola M. Jones; and his brother, Curtis E. Jones.
