Obituary follows:
Grandmother Fricke, a well known old lady died at her home in Concordia after a brief illness on Monday morning, December 20, 1909, at 6:30 o'clock, at an age of 73 years, 8 months and 4 days. The funeral took place this (Thursday) morning at 10:30 o'clock. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Brost (Brust?) in the St. Paul (Lutheran) church, after which the remains were buried at the Cross (Lutheran) cemetery near Emma.
Grandmother Fricke, nee Marie Mesenbrink, was born in the district of Nienburg, Province of Hanover, Germany, on April 16, 1836. She came to America in 1849. She married Christian Fricke in 1854 at Lexington, where the family lived from that year until 1857. In the latter year they moved on their old farm near Emma, taking along enough lumber for a shed. Ten children were born to this union of whom three preceeded her in death. (Christian Fricke, her husband died December 10. 1896). The living children are: Louise, Mrs. Henry Wille; Henry; William, of St. Paul Kansas; Anna, Mrs. Herm. H. Schnackenberg, of Los Angelos, Calif.; Lena, Mrs. John Franke; Mary, Mrs. Geo. H. Schnackenberg, and Herman, of Parsons, Kas. Besides the children she leaves a brother, Henry William Mesenbrink of Craighton (Cass county), Mo., 29 grandchildren, 3 great-grand children and many relatives and friends to mourn her death. - May the good old lady rest in peace after her long journey on this earth.
