OBITUARY :
JOHN W. ANGLE, 57, of 12007 Buchanan Trail West, Mercersburg, died Friday, March 22, in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born April 20, 1927 near Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Clarence and Estella (Smith) Angle.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Mercersburg.

Angle was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Mercersburg and was the first letter carrier of the borough. He was appointed postmaster of McConnellsburg in 1973 and served there until his retirement in January, 1985.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Angle was one of the founders of the Mercersburg Little League and helped establish the VFW Memorial Athletic Park.

He was a member and treasurer of VFW Post No. 6421, the American Legion Post No. 517, the Great Cove Golf Club and past president of the Regional Postmaster's Association.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam (Fisher) Angle; one son, Michael Angle, Hudson, Wisc.; one daughter, Wendy Kay Angle, at home; five sisters, Hazel Gearhart and Beulah Angle, both of Greencastle; Ruth Yeager, Chambersburg; Vera Zeger, Mercersburg, and Sara Jane Horst, Hagerstown; four brothers, Lloyd Angle, Waynesboro; Clayton Angle, Mercersburg; Roy C. Angle, Greencastle, and Robert E. Angle, Mercersburg; and one grandson.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Welsh Run Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Dino Pedrone officiating. Burial will be Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the VFW Post No. 6241, Mercersburg.


The family will receive friends at the Lininger Funeral Home, Mercersburg, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church one hour before the services on Tuesday.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa., 17201.
