John Joseph was the sixth of thirteen children born to Joseph Henry & Anna Gertrude (Vorgert) Fahnhorst. John served in the US Army during WW-II; enlisting on 23 February 1942 and serving until 29 September 1945.

On 9 May 1942 (while at home after completing US Army Basic Training), John married Alma Francis Zirbes in Melrose, MN; he was age 27, she was 17. Alma the oldest of four children born to John William & Helen Magdelena (Kluempe) Zirbes.

John died 2 August 1978 in Rice, MN, at age 64. He worked as a occupational therapist for the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Saint Cloud, MN for over 33 years.
