Joan Leiker, 71, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Shawnee, Okla., to John Edward and Virginia Leinder Cason. She lived in Oklahoma until moving to Osage City in 1945 and later moved to Larned, graduating from Larned High School in 1953. She then took training at the Dominican School of Nursing in Great Bend. A Garden City resident since 1955, Mrs. Leiker was a homemaker and volunteered at St. Catherine Hospital for 18 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Garden City, and enjoyed crafts and going to the library. On May 16, 1955, she married Art Leiker in Garden City. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Romero of Garden City, and Karen Wells of Topeka; a son, John Leiker of Garden City; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
