Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Jane (Chica) Renfrow Ross died on May 2, 2016, surrounded by the presence, prayers, and thoughts of the family and friends that cherished her. Jane was an amazing woman who was long the rock on which her family depended. After the husband she adored died suddenly she raised their four children by herself. This was just one of many times in her life she overcame adversity while always maintaining a smile on her face and a kind word for all. Jane was generous with her time, volunteering for many causes and her beloved St Peter's Episcopal Church in Rockport. She was an accomplished cook and always fed her family and friends with memorable meals. Her home was always open to any and all friends and family, hosting her guests with her most generous hospitality. She was a dear friend to many and will be greatly missed by all those she leaves behind whose lives she touched.

Jane was born June 1, 1934, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to William and Janet Renfrow. She attended W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi and went on to attend the University of Texas in Austin.

She met her future husband, David Michael Ross, in Monterrey, Mexico, where he lived. They were married on May 21, 1955. After David finished US Navy flight school in Pensacola and Corpus Christi they moved to California, where he was a pilot at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. While in California Tina and Terry, the first two of their four children, were born. After completion of his active duty commitment they moved to Vermont where David attended Middlebury College. After graduation the family moved to Dallas, Texas, where David was employed at Texas Instruments and joined the Marine Corps Reserve. While in Dallas they had two sons, David Jr. and Lawrence.

David Sr., died in an airplane crash while training in the USMC Reserve on June 17, 1962. Not long afterwards Jane moved the family back to her hometown of Corpus Christi to be closer to her parents and her brother Bill's family. Jane worked many years at Browning Brothers and later Suzanne's. She raised her four children with the loving help of her parents and brother until they all graduated from her alma mater, W.B. Ray High School. With their mother's strong love and guidance her four children all went on to be successful in their lives.

Soon after the last of her children had graduated from high school she moved to Rockport, Texas. She took advantage of her many years of retail experience to start her own store, Galley Gadgets. She was very successful in her enterprise and retired after many years. Jane developed many close friends while in Rockport and was a beloved member of the Rockport community. She attended St Peter's Episcopal Church and served on its vestry and frequently helped in Castaways, their resell shop. Jane loved gardening, a passion she learned from her father. Jane also loved traveling, having explored many corners of Europe, Mexico, South Africa and the U.S. on many occasions. In her retirement she was also the number one cheerleader for her four grandchildren, making many trips to San Antonio, Keller, Texas, and beyond to attend their many school plays, games, choir performances, graduations and birthday parties. She would always travel with many gifts for all and enough food to feed an army. It was like Christmas whenever she arrived.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Janet Renfrow and her husband, Capt. David M Ross, USMCR.

She is survived by her four children: Tina Stiles and her husband, Jim of Hondo, Terry Ross of Austin, David Ross and his wife, Jeanette of San Antonio, Larry Ross and his wife, Kim of Keller. She is survived also by her brother, William (Bill) Renfrow Jr., and his wife, Sandy and their two children, Shelly Porter and her husband, Arthur and Jennifer Brandt and her husband, Christopher. She also is survived by her four adoring granddaughters: Maddie Dixon, Sara Ross, Ana Ross and Isabela (Bela) Ross; her sister-in-law, Cynthia Naton and her husband Richard Soennichsen.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St Peter's Episcopal Church (Rockport, TX) building fund or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Rockport (301 Hwy 35 North) at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, May 9, 2016, with a reception to follow. A private burial service will be held at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi.
