FRITZ RUMMEL DIES
Fritz Rummel, 77 years old died at his home, 117 Nolan Street, Monday night at 8:25 o'clock. He was one of the pioneer residents of San Antonio, having spent 65 years of his life here. He was born in Aschersleben, Germany. He retired from business many years ago, but when actively engaged was a partner of Paul Wagner in the wholesale grocery firm of Wagner & Rummel on North Presa Street. He was a charter member of the San Antonio Turn Verein (sp?), assistant chief of the volunteer fire department under Fire Chief G. A. Daceler, in the old days of the volunteer hose company and during the civil war he served under Maj. Tow Howard, in the quartermaster's department.
Mr. Rummel is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Ernest Thomas, Mrs. Paula Hilgers, Misses Ella, Freida and Marguerie Rummel; two sons, Walter and Julius Rummel, and a grandson Herbert Hilgers, all of San Antonio; two sisters, Mrs. John U. Mueller of this city and Mrs. Louise Salire of Lavernia.
The funeral was to be held Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the residence, with Rev. A. Wolff of the St. John's Lutheran Church conducting the services. Interment will be made in the family lot in city cemetery no. 1.
