May 15, 1920 - March 25, 2014 On March 25, 2014, Mason Elbert Compton, 93, entered eternity due to chronic health issues. His daughter and second wife were by his side for his passing. Eldest son of Jasper and Cordia Compton of West Virginia, Mason was a devoted and loving Christ follower, husband; father, brother, Uncle and friend.

He grew up on a farm and served his country proudly as a private first class in the U.S. Army in France and Germany during WWII. After the war, he studied watch making and opened his own jewelry and watch repair shop in Kansas. After moving to California, he helped with the building of the pews for the Torrance Church of God and spent years making turned wooden candle sticks, lamps and other fine crafted objects for family and friends. Although he had to give up woodworking, due to health issues, he would regularly discuss the fine points of craftsmanship.

In 1960 Mason married 1st wife, Betty Lee Compton, and together they had one daughter, who he taught how to love and pray for others. Mason spent his professional life as an instrument technician for McDonald Douglas Aero Space. Upon retirement, he went back to his love of watches and clocks setting up a studio in his home to repair them for family and friends. After 35 years of marriage, he lost his 1st wife to complications of surgery and later met and married his second wife, Margaret L. Evans. They were married for 15 years. During this time, "Papa" and Peggy spent many happy days enjoying their grandchildren, their church friends and traveling. Mason remained engaged with world affairs all of his life, reading newspapers and watching the news daily.

He is survived by his 2nd wife, Peggy, his daughter, Cheryl, son-in-law, Cameron, grandchildren, Caylee and Cammie, brother George and sister Helen and many nieces and nephews. He was blessed to have compassionate care during his last 4 years from Albert and Yvonne. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

The funeral will be held at Westminster Memorial Park and Mortuary, Westminster, on Friday, April 11, 2014, at 2:30PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project online at supportwwp.org or a charity of your choice.
