Alvie Ripley died at age 76 on Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

He was born in Murphysboro on July 18, 1921, the son of William M. and Flora Stanton Ripley.

He married Pauline Marshall in Murphysboro on August 23, 1946.

He is survived by three sons, Bill Ripley, Gene Ripley and Phillip Ripley, all of Murphysboro; one daughter, Mrs. Pamela Lipe of Murphysboro; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Claude and Clyde Ripley; and one sister, Kathryn Bishop.

Mr. Ripley was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and for his service received four Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and a meritorious service plaque.
