Donald Walter Albrecht, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on May 3, 2016. Don was born to Walter and Alma (Rothe) Albrecht in D'Hanis, Texas on December 2, 1924. His family later moved to San Antonio, where he graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1941. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army, landed at the beaches of Normandy in August 1944, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and as he liked to put it, "took a dangerous walking tour of Europe, courtesy of the 526th Armored Infantry Battalion." After the war, Don returned to San Antonio and met his wife, Maxine. They were married on April 6, 1948 and settled in Poth, where they raised their children. After retirement from a varied career, he and Maxine enjoyed traveling, whether it was a trip with their grandchildren or a reunion with his war buddies. He was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, where he assisted with parish activities, served on the pastoral council and was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and Order of the Alhambra. Don stayed young and sharp until the end by reading, visiting with his grandchildren, tending his yard, and doting on his beloved dogs. Don was quiet and modest in nature, but boldly generous with his heart and his time, especially for his grandchildren and their children. We will miss his kind spirit, but our hearts rejoice at his reunion with Maxine in Heaven.

Don is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Maxine, his parents, and his sister Mary Lou Dornak. He is survived by his son Donald Albrecht Jr. and wife Jeanne and his daughter Karen Nance. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jack (Allison) Albrecht, Erin Albrecht, Alison Albrecht, Mark (Diane) Sekula, Caroline (Michael) Ellis, Michael Camacho and Daniel Camacho; and six great grandchildren: Noah, Shane, Adam, James, Elizabeth, and Cecilia.

Visitation will be held at 5:00 P.M. Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth, Texas, with recitation of the Rosary to follow at 6:30 P.M.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 9, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, Texas.
