Martha is survived by her nieces, Jerri Lynn Frost (Kathy Geiger) and Jennifer Jones all of Ellabell; nephews, Greg Frost (David Coleman) of Statesboro; Jason Frost and Brian Jones both of Ellabell; sister-in-law, Janice Jones of Ellabell and many cousins.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Harmon Julius and Clara Duggar Jones; sister, Juliette Jones Frost; nephew, Brad Jones; brother-in-law, Jerry Frost; and brother, Harmon J. Jones, Jr.
Martha maintained a positive attitude through many challenges. She was a mother figure and role model to her nieces and nephews. An avid reader and gardener, Martha loved her daffodils and graciously shared them with friends and shut-ins.
After graduating from Tift College and Georgia Southern College, she spent four years teaching in the Bryan and Effingham County school systems. She then spent 35 years working in the lab at the Savannah Sugar Refinery, before retiring to a quiet life at home.
Martha's life-long love for animals was her greatest accomplishment. Her devotion to animals, domestic and wild, was well known throughout the community.
Her rescue efforts, nurturing and rehabilitation extended to deer, bobcats, raccoons, turkeys, goats, ferrets, geese, squirrels, birds, and of course her much-loved dogs and cats. Her last words were a request that her dog, Rusty, be allowed on her bed.
Her loving spirit will be much missed by her two-legged family, and even more so by her four-legged family.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, May 6, 2016 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 7, 2016 in Lower Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, in Ellabell, GA.
