Nathaniel Cole was born about 1682 in Farmington, Hartford County, CT to John (1639-1689) and Rachel Hart(1642-1684) Cole. Nathaniel and his parents were early settlers of the "Great Swamp" which the Kensington-Berlin, CT area was originally called. They were members of the "Great Swamp Society", and the "Cole" name (along with other members of the society) is inscribed on a massive boulder at the entrance to Christian Lane Cemetery. Nathaniel was married twice, first to Elizabeth Woodford (1682-1749) and then to Lydia (unknown). He left a will and his wife Lydia, his two daughters, Eunice Cole and Rachel Boardman, and his four sons, Nathan, Job, Nathaniel and Elisha were the beneficiaries of the estate. Nathaniel was buried in Christian Lane Cemetery in Kensington, CT. (This cemetery was not maintained for many years until 1900, when the DAR raised a permanent fund for cleanup and upkeep). Nathaniel's gravestone is still legible and in good condition considering its age.
Other graveyards in the Kensington-Berlin area contain many of his descendants.
