Harold Vincent Lester, 85, died at 8:30 AM Thursday, Dec. 28, 2008, in his West Lafayette residence. Born June 9, 1921, in Lafayette, he married Susan L. Sloan on Oct. 12, 1947; she died March 2, 1991. He then married Wanda Cupp Griffith on Dec. 21, 1991; she died April 22, 1998.
Mr. Lester was a lineman for GTE [telephone company] for 42 years and was a foreman when he retired. An Army veteran of World War II, he enjoyed playing golf, breeding and showing beagles, and was a member of the AKC.
Surviving are four [step]sons, Darrell Griffith, Sr. (wife Joanne), Terry Griffith, both of West Lafayette, Mike Griffith (wife Janie) of Lafayette, and Dave Griffith (wife Tami) of Attica; two brothers, Kenneth Lester of Lafayette and Harry Lester of Indianapolis; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by four brothers, Bernard, Cleo, Leo and Frank Lester; and a sister, Mildred Lester.
