Thaddeus Halsted Myers was born on August 31, 1859, in Yonkers, New York, the child of John Kirtland and Sarah Louise. He married Sarah Hawley on October 7, 1897, in Ridgefield, Connecticut. They had two children during their marriage. He died on December 24, 1925, in New York, at the age of 66.

T. Halsted Myers married Sarah Hawley on October 6, 1897.

Father: John Kirtland Myers, a merchant; later president of Pacific Mutual Insurance Company; son of Peter Joseph Henry and Lucy Fitch (Kirtland) Myers; grandson of Joseph Myers, who served as a Colonel in the Revolutionary War; grandnephew of General Michael Myers of the Continental Army; great-grandson of Peter Myers, who came to this country in the second Palatinate emigration in 1710 and settled in the Mohawk Valley, N. Y.


Mother: Sarah Louisa (Halsted) Myers; daughter of William Mills and Sarah (Johnson) Halsted; descendant of Timothy Halsted, who came from Hempstead, England, about 1656 and settled in Hempstead, Long Island.

Williston Academy. Dissertation appointment Junior year; first dispute appointment Senior year; member Freshman Class Supper and Junior Promenade committees, Kappa Sigma Epsilon, Delta Kappa, Psi Upsilon, and Scroll and Key. M D. Columbia 1885; had practiced in New York City since 1885, specializing in orthopedic surgery; junior, senior, and house surgeon at St. Luke's Hospital 1884-86, attending orthopedic surgeon since 1889, and director of Orthopedic Division of Out-Patient Department since 1906; house surgeon New York Foundling Hospital 1886-87, visiting orthopedic surgeon (head of the department) 1899-1918 (also president of Medical Board for several years), and since 1918 consulting orthopedist; assistant physician in Out-Patient Department of Roosevelt Hospital in 1887 or 1888; connected with Dispensary Staff of New York Orthopedic Dispensary and Hospital since 1888 (assistant surgeon until 1894, attending surgeon 1894-1900, and consulting surgeon since 1900); appointed orthopedic surgeon to Midwifery Dispensary 1891; since its merger with Society of the Lying-in Hospital in 1893 under the latter name, connected with the hospital as head of department of orthopedic surgery; established Orthopedic Clinic at St. John's Riverside Hospital, Yonkers, N. Y., about 1894 and was in charge of it for about fifteen years; also consulting orthopedist for the hospital from 1894 until his death; orthopedic surgeon to New York Infant Asylum from 1908 until its consolidation with the Nursery and Child's Hospital in 1910 and since then with the latter institution; consulting orthopedic surgeon to House of the Annunciation, New York, and to All Souls' Hospital, Mornstown, N. J ; designed a number of splinters and braces for special medical purposes; published numerous articles on orthopedic surgery in various medical journals; assistant editor of first and second editions of Ashby and Wright's Diseases of Children, having charge of the surgical departments; member New York Academy of Medicine, New York State and County Medical societies, New York Pathological Society, Lenox Medical and Surgical Society, American Orthopedic Association, and St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, New York.


Married October 7, 1897, in Ridgefield, Conn., Sarah, daughter of Henry Eugene and Elizabeth Jane (Lockwood) Hawley. Children: Halsted Hawley, '20, and Ogden King, ex-26.

Death due to a complication of diseases; had suffered a stroke in January, 1925, which was followed by four minor attacks. Buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn. Survived by wife and sons.
