Member of the Loyal Refugee Volunteers in New York and New Jersey. He had moved to New York City from Smith's Clove, New York, where he was a member of Claudius Smith's infamous "Rampo Cowboys Gang." The gang supported the British cause in the American Revolution by stealing livestock and horses from Patriots and selling them to the British.
