BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - Former Daviess County resident Delmar F. Gress, 88, of Bonita Springs, Florida, died Monday. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. March 18 at the Sugarland Memory Gardens Chapel, with the Rev. Ben Bean officiating. Born Feb. 21, 1912, in New Madrid County, Mo., he was the son of Andrew and Ethel Gress. His first wife Mildred (Downey) Gress, whom he married in 1936, died in 1983. He married Wynona Mayhew Kroegr in 1984 and she survives. Also surviving are two sons Col. James A. Gress (USMC ret.) of Arlingtn, Va. and Gerald "Gary" Gress of Bismarck, N.D.; three sisters Glendora Armes of Washington, Velma Wade of Plainville and Melba Mattingly of Centerville, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Five brothers, Cull, Rex, Clyde, Don and Gilbert Gress are deceased. A founding partner of the construction and excavation firm, Gress Brothers, he attended Washington area schools and was an honorary member of the Washington Conservation Club, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Anchor Christian Church and was active in the Bonita Springs Woodcarvers Club.
