Dorothy Elizabeth Mowry Daughtry, 91, of Fishersville died Wednesday April 27, 2016 at Baldwin Park in Staunton, VA. She was born in Augusta County, a daughter of Alexander Robertson Mowry and Mary Jarman Fretwell Mowry.

She was raised in New Hope amid a large extended and loving family. Her strong Christian faith was a big part of her life and gave her grace and peace of mind in her passing.

An active member of Basic United Methodist Church for 71 years, she was in the choir and played piano and organ. Dorothy taught private piano lessons for many years and accompanied the Symphonettes. She acquired certification from the Sherwood School of Music. Other than music, she loved housekeeping, gardening, cooking, sewing, needlework, reading, family and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by Purcell Joseph Daughtry, her husband of 64 years. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Anna Craft, son-in-law Butch Craft, and sister Mary Vernon Mowry.

She is survived by sons Robert Daughtry (Judy), William Daughtry (Betsy), daughters Margaret Craft, Joan Leake (Carl Persing), 3 grandchildren, Aaron Craft, Susan Daughtry (Brian Dowdy), Katie Jones (Chris), and 3 great-grandchildren Emily and Eli Craft, and Luca Dowdy, and numerous relatives. She leaves very special friends, Wesley and Robin Cash, and Neil and Linda Cash.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church. A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday, May 1 at 2:00 PM at Basic United Methodist Church by Rev. Don Gibson. Following the service, there will be a reception in the church social hall. A private burial will take place later.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Augusta Health Hospice of Shenandoah; Ugo Solomon, Physical Therapist; and Baldwin Park Assisted Living for their loving care.
