Clarence Dickman died on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at the University Hospital Intensive Care Unit, after a brief illness. Prior to that, Clarence was healthy, happy, and secure in his life at 945 South Midvale. Clarence was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Richter; twin brother, Kenneth; and his friend, David Jones. Clarence resided with his friend, Jon Gander. He worked in the dairy department at Copps Food Center on Whitney Way. Clarence was extremely proud of his home, as well as his job. Clarence enjoyed life to the fullest and remained positive despite the daily obstacles. Numerous friends that cared a great deal about him survive Clarence. Many relationships of Clarence's became special, even though they began as paid attendants. Clarence was born on his family farm in Manitowoc and may be survived by numerous siblings; unfortunately, Clarence lost touch with his family at a young age. At the time of Clarence's death, he did not know how to find any of his family members. Clarence lived in state-run facilities most of his adult life. Clarence moved to Madison in 1988 from a Deerfield group home that he shared with many friends that later also moved to Madison. Clarence was supported by numerous service providers over the years, too many to name here. RFDF (Resources for Developing Futures), Community Living provided residential support services for Clarence since 1988, and SWO (Successful Work Options) provided vocational services since 1995. Clarence was a very religious man and attended Mass every Sunday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Clarence maintained many dear friendships at his church and touched numerous people's lives, sometimes without even knowing it.
