Emmert B. Wallech Jr., age 79, of Hagerstown, Md., was peacefully called home on Saturday, July 20, 2013.

He was born April 4, 1934, in Marion, Pa., to the late Emmert Bertram Wallech Sr. and Araminta Ethel Knott Wallech.

His wife, Betty K. Sours Wallech, preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 2007.

Emmert was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard and retired as a driver for Horst Trucking Co. of Hagerstown after many years. He was an avid supporter of needy charities such as The Salvation Army, the Rescue Mission and food banks.

Surviving are his children, daughters Cheryl Giffin and husband, Tom, of Keedysville, Lois Romack and husband, Andy, of Hagerstown, Pamela Wallech of New Tazewell, Tenn., Jamie Taboada and husband, Jeff, of Thurmont, Md.; sons Emmert B. Wallech III and wife, Felisa, of Maugansville, Md., Douglas E. Wallech and wife, JoEllen, of Hagerstown, and Jeffrey Wallech and wife, Yvonne, of McConnellsburg, Pa.; sisters Elizabeth Weaver and husband, Melvin, Kathryn Whittington and husband, Darrell, Susan Fritz and husband, Rich, Sharon McAfee and husband, Ray; brothers Ralph Wallech and wife, Nancy, Wayne Wallech and wife, Barb, Nathan Wallech, Andrew Wallech and wife, Nancy, Joe Wallech and wife, Ginger, and David L. Wallech Sr. and wife, Deborah K.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, and one brother, Leon Wallech.

Services will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, with Marty Clevenger officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. For your convenience, you may visit after noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one of the above organizations that he supported.
