Elaine LaVonne Alvarez (Kasper), 80, passed away in Austin, TX on Friday, April 22, 2016. She was born to Olga (Stransky) and Valdimore Kasper of Owatonna, MN.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Brick – Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Rd, Owatonna) with Deacon Pat Fagan presiding. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home starting at 9:30AM.
Interment Bohemian National Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dr. Ubaldo Alvarez.
She graduated from Owatonna High School in 1953 and pursued Nursing at St. Barnabas in Minneapolis, MN graduating in 1956. While at nursing school she met her future husband, Dr. Ubaldo Alvarez. The couple eventually relocated to La Crosse, WI. Over the years, Elaine & Ubaldo welcomed five children into their home. Elaine was active in the community as President of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Medical Association. After receiving her Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, she became the Relocation Director at Catholic Charities.
Upon retirement, Elaine and her husband moved to Austin, TX to be closer to children and grandchildren. While in Austin she was an active volunteer with Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Her children and grandchildren remember Elaine as a mother who showed them the importance of education, a strong work ethic, and resourcefulness.
Elaine is survived by her children Linda Alvarez (Mark Olson) of Austin, TX, Thomas Alvarez (Paula) of St. Louis, MO, Teresa Alvarez (Peter Gerritsen) of Chicago, IL, Anna Jorgensen (Michael) of Syracuse, NY and David Alvarez (Lisa) of Austin, TX and eleven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Memory of Elaine LaVonne Alvarez to the Mayo Clinic in support of Alzheimer's disease Research.
