Charles David Acker (Shag), 72, was born on July 12, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA, to Charles Acker and Leona Kern. He died on April 24, 2016 at Bay Pines VA Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Shirley Acker (Amino). Charles is also survived by his son David Acker (Laurie) of Lansing, MI; brother Craig Dorman (Sharon) of Silver Creek, NY; sisters Tammie Conant (Richard) of Cresson, TX, and Suanne Dorman of Imlay City, MI; granddaughter Morgan Acker and many nieces and nephews.
Charles graduated from Brocton Central School in Brocton, NY in 1961. After the Army, he joined American Legion 59 in Fredonia, NY, where he was a member since 1969. He was an avid NASCAR fan and was also a member of the Chautauqua County Corvette Club.
A memorial service honoring the life of Charles David Acker is scheduled for April 29, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Bay Pines National Cemetery, where the United States Army will be providing military honors.
The family of Charles Acker would like to take a moment and thank the entire Hospice staff at Bay Pines VA Medical Center for their professionalism and compassionate care that they gave to Charles during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to the Bay Pines VA Health Care System.
