Clarence was a well known figure in Independence. He served as Constable for many years. Often he was called to help settle problems that arose between citizens. He was best known as a sheep shearer and woodsman. Practically every acre in Independence was known to him. He had traversed the land scores of times, gathering mushrooms, butternuts, ginseng, and hunting fox and coon.
Having served in World War 1, he was a member of the V.F.W. and was frequently in uniform marching in memorial Day and 4th of July parades. He passed away in 1980. His wife, Clara still resides here.
Services were at the Armstrong Community church, Maple Plain, Minnesota. Rev. Lloyd VanStone officiated. Duet was sung by Don Painter and Bobanette McCoy. Pallbearers were: Don Hamilton, Leonard Beal, Harlan Beal, Steve Beal, Don Engle and Howard Beal. Honorary Pallbearers were World War I Veterans.
