Donald Platko, age 65 of Bend, Ore. and previously of Shelton and Stratford, died on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Dolores (Plasa) Platko. He was the son of Elizabeth (Tomasko) Platko of Stratford and the late Joseph Platko. He was previously employed as a barber at Michael Anthony's Barber Shop in Fairfield. An avid runner for more than 30 years, he completed an impressive lineup of Marathons. Over the last 10 years of his life, he completed and participated in several ultramarathons consisting of 50 and 100 miles. The most prestigious ultramarathon he completed was the Leadville 100 which requires running a continuous 100 miles at altitudes of more than 10,000 feet in less than 36 hours. Additionally, he completed more than 60 marathons including New York, Boston and Washington, as well as a countless number of shorter road races. Friends may call on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. Interment in St. John Cemetery, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Don's memory to N.O.R.D. (National Organization for Rare Disorders), P.O. Box 1968, 55 Kenosia Avenue, Danbury, CT 06813-1968 or www.rarediseases.org.
