Dorothea Lee (Dora) Ahrenstorff, the daughter of Rev. William Daniel and Kathryn Bauer Sauer, was born April 21, 1893 on the family farm in Osceola County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Osceola County where she received her early education and later attended Hartley High School.
Dora married Ernest Ahrenstorff on March 11, 1914, in Des Moines. Following their marriage, they farmed in Osceola County near Hartley for their married lives. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Hartley and the United Methodist Woman and was their oldest and longest living member, having been a member for 85 years. She formerly belonged to the Farm Bureau, Republican Woman and the Women's Relief Corps. She loved to sew bake, and share her bread and cookies.
Mrs. Ahrenstorff passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa on Wednesday, November 20, 1996 at the age of 103.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on February 12, 1969; five brothers: Henry, Grover, Will, Elmer, and Merle Sauer; six sisters, Minnie Byers, Carrie Walter, Nora Sauer, Della Davis, Mabel Kennedy, and Dessa Bovey; and one son-in-law, Gaylen Klinker.
She is survived by one son and his wife, Gene and Jean Ahrenstorff of Hartley; two daughters, Ruth and her husband, Marlin Vetter of Hartley, and Arlene Klinker of Cherokee; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one brother, George Sauer of California; other relatives and friends.
