Margaret Augusta Beauchamp passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the age of 97. Margaret was born on September 12, 1918 to the late Harold and Mary (Cavanaugh) Opp in Menard, Texas. She grew up on a ranch in Menard and attended Our Lady of the Lake School and graduated from Menard High School. She then moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech. She met J. V. Beauchamp in Lubbock and they started dating until he entered the military. They married on Feb. 11, 1943 in Abilene, where he was stationed. Margaret lived in San Diego until the war ended and the couple made their home back in Lubbock. Margaret was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church; the Order of Martha; the PEO and the Museum Association. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. She was a devoted supporter of education and founded the Margaret Maher Scholarship Foundation. Margaret was also an avid Texas Tech supporter and in her later years enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, J. V. Beauchamp, her brother, Fred Opp, and her sister, Nellene Parrish. Margaret is survived by her two sons, John Patrick Beauchamp and wife Michele of New Orleans, Louisiana, and James Brian Beauchamp and wife Margaret of Lubbock, four grandchildren, Michael Kelly Beauchamp and wife Sudina of Claremore, Oklahoma, Elizabeth Beauchamp Brown and husband Brentt of San Francisco, California, Alexander Cook Beauchamp and wife Anne of Brooklyn, New York, and Robert Vance Beauchamp of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, two great grandchildren, Wyatt Arthur Brown, and Zoey Carolyn Brown of San Francisco, California; and her sister, Patricia Dennstedt of San Diego.
