Deane Dehaven McKinney, age 76, of Marion, NC, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Mission Hospital.

He was born November 3, 1939 in McDowell County, NC to the late Devada Biddix McKinney. Mr. McKinney was a Vietnam veteran of the United States Army where he served as helicopter crew chief. He also served in the Naval Reserve and the National Guard. Mr. McKinney was highly decorated for his service. He received two purple hearts, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Aircraft Crewman Badge and an Air Medal with 8 Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a very courageous man! To his family, he was known as a simple man with a very generous and giving heart, someone who cared about people. He loved his family and they adored him.

In addition to his Mother, Mr. McKinney is also preceded in death by his brother, Edgar Paul McKinney; one nephew, Jeffrey Brian Hollifield; one niece, Regina Yvonne Beaver; and his best friend and brother in law Edd Hollifield. 

Surviving are one sister, Glenda Hollifield of Marion, NC; one brother, Everett McKinney of Woodland Hills, CA; six nieces, Geraldine Taylor, Tisha LeBeau, Kathleen Urrusuno, Adrienne McKinney Smith, Erica Hollifield and Keisha Hollifield; two nephews, Johnny and Michael Hollifield; three great-nieces, Jordann McGovney, Ashley Hollifield and Courtney Jakubic; eight great-nephews, Brian Hollifield, Caleb Hollifield, John Allen Hollifield, Eric Greer, Matt Hanson, Justin McGovney, Tyler McGovney and Michael Schwanke; two great-great-nieces, Jasmine and Gracie Greer.
