Born Sept. 14, 1917, in Columbia, S.C., he was a son of the late Lawrence Daniel and Maude E. Cochrane Lyons.
A member of Highland United Methodist Church, where he was on the church board, he retired from Hickory Chair Co. after 42 years.
Mr. Lyons is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine W. Lyons; a brother, C.R. "Bob" Cagle; and a sister, Nell Stone.
Survivors include a son, Glenn D. Propst of Hickory; a daughter and son-in-law, Violet Propst and Ernest Powell of Hickory; two grandsons, Ernest Powell Jr. and Glenn David Propst Jr. of Hickory; a granddaughter, Mrs. Stanley (Tamara) Templeton of Statesville; a great grandson, Dustin Templeton of Statesville; a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Cagle of Hickory; a nephew, Chris Cagle of Hickory; and a niece, Jennie Cagle Hefner of Hickory.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Highland United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
