Mavis Alta Dunker, 84, Denver, Colo., died Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at the Bear Creek Center in Morrison, Colo.
She was an avid crocheter and made a lot of afghans for all her loved ones. She was an excellent cook and along with her husband delivered many a splendid meal for all those that visited.
Mavis Alta Crouch was born June 26, 1932, to William Oliver and Florence May (Anderson) Crouch near Anselmo. She was the youngest of three children.
She attended school in Hoosier Valley, Merna, and graduated high school from Broken Bow in 1951. After graduating, she taught at the Snake Run country school located north of Broken Bow.
Mavis met the love of her life, Richard Dunker Jr., at a high school basketball game. They were married June 3, 1951.
Mavis and Richard ran restaurants in both Arnold and Broken Bow, for a time. They eventually moved to Milwaukee, Wisc. and later to Lakewood, Colo., where they would raised their family of three boys.
Mavis was a cub scout leader for several years. She worked for the Sears Company for many years and then for the Mountain Bell Company where she retired. When they retired, they traveled around the U.S. in their RV for about 10 years before settling down in Austin, Colo., on a five acre farm.
Survivors include her three sons, Richard Dunker III, Ricky Dunker and Randall and his wife Lorrie Dunker; grandchildren, Sarah and husband Shawn Kelley, Emily Dunker, Richard Dunker IV, and Jarod Dunker; great-grandchildren, Kynsie Kelley and Skyler Kelley; one sister-in-law, Sarah Crouch; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; one sister, Pauline Merklin; and one brother, Ora Crouch.
Graveside services were Nov. 3, 2016, at the Broken Bow Cemetery in Broken Bow, with the Rev. Kathy Salts officiating.
