George was the sixth of eight children born to John Amos and Francis (Galbreath) Day. He married Mary Elizabeth Moscrip in 1881 and they were the parents of six sons: Louis Edwin, Harvey Clement, Emory H., Cyrus, Ralph Willis and Allan Homer.
