He resided in Meredith most of his life and attended Meredith schools. He resided in Whitefield for seven years and returned to the West Center Harbor and Meredith in 1961. He worked as a lineman for E.A. Sirles in Meredith for many years and on the St Lawrence Seaway for three years. He owned and operated his own drilling and blasting company in Meredith for more than sixteen years. John was a World War II US Army veteran and had served with The Company A 709th Military Police Battalion. He was a member of the Griggs Wyatt American Legion Post 33 in Meredith.
The family includes his wife of forty-two years, Mae Margaret (Heath) Hughes of West Center Harbor; eight daughters, one son; twenty-one grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; five half brothers and five half sisters; a sister Elizabeth Taylor of Laconia and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours at Mayhew funeral Home, Route 3 and 104, Meredith, are Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 1 p.m. The Reverend Paul Bertolino, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Meredith Village Cemetery. >The Laconia Citizen.
