The death of Mr. Miles J. Hardy, on Wednesday night last, was a great shock to his family and friends. He was sick only a few days, but his disease was the most violent form of hematuric fever. Mr. Hardy was a useful citizen, and the very large attendance at his funeral, which took place from the Methodist church on Thursday afternoon, showed how wide was the circle of his friends and how greatly he was esteemed in this community. Dr. Andrews paid a beautiful tribute to his characteristics as a soldier, citizen, husband, and father. He leaves a wife and six children. Mr. Hardy had been for several years in the employ of the lessees of the Penitentiary, and was so faithful and efficient that his place cannot well be filled.
