The father of seven children, he married Augusta Pettis in October 1876. William is well remembered in Susquehanna County Pennsylvania as the founder of the Montrose Democrat newspaper. He also was one of the people to help organize a society to house the historical records and artifacts of Susquehanna County. He is the Cruser for whom Cruser St, in Montrose, Pa is named.
