Robert "Bob" Penney

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 12, 2006, at Westside District Cemetery for longtime Fellows resident Robert "Bob" Penney who passed away on October 8, 2006, in Bakersfield. Bob was born in Ray, Arizona on August 30, 1920 to his parents, Carl H. Penney Sr. and Etta Mae Penney. In 1923 he traveled with his mother and siblings by train to Fellows, California to join his father who was employed in the oil fields. He resided with his parents in Fellows until 1940 when he married his wife of 61 years, Jerry Penney. Bob retired from Mobil Oil at Belridge where he was a Roustabout Foreman for 35 years. In 1971 Bob and his wife purchased the Fellows Hotel and Bar where they made many lifelong friendships during their ownership. Bob had quite a green thumb and enjoyed growing plants in his green house and a garden of various vegetables. He braided horse halters and loved his horses. Bob grew a beard every fall and was well known in town as Santa Claus. One of his favorite things was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob was a loving husband, father and Papaw to his grandchildren, great- grandchildren and many friends. His survivors include his children, Robbie Penney of Taft, CA, Janie and Jim Olafson of San Angelo, TX, and Mike and Robbie Penney of Bakersfield, CA; his grandchildren, Tami and Gene Jones of Taft, CA, Vicki and Frank Buck of Lawrenceville, GA, SFC Robert Alan and Sylvia Olafson of Ft. Rucker, AL, Michael and JoAnna Penney of Olympia, WA, and Cindy and Louie Yrigollen of Arroyo Grande, CA; his great-grandchildren, Tiffani, Mathew and Zackary Jones, Ryan, Stacey, Jessica and Jonathan Buck, Kevin, Katie and Robert Alan Olafson II, Jessica and Stephan Syfrett, Christopher, Cody, Brandon and Michael Penney, Chrisma and Rugan Lawler and Jonathan and Allison Yrigollen as well as many family members and treasured friends. Friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, from 3:00-8:30 p.m., at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
