Robert was born in Lafayette, Indiana on January 24, 1948. He was the son of the late Michael and Helena Catherine (May) Anthrop. He was raised in the Klondike area, graduating from Klondike High School in 1967. He has lived most of his life in Lafayette, moving to West Lebanon in 1993.
Robert married Rebecca Deen Harper on October 19, 1968 in Lafayette. She preceded him in death on November 12, 2009.
Robert was an automotive technician. He and his wife owned and operated Anthrop's Auto Repair in Lafayette for 17 years, before retiring.
Robert was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Attica. He had been attending Heartland Community Church in Lafayette. Robert enjoyed tinkering and fixing up his antique Ford tractor. He enjoyed building equipment out of spare parts. He especially loved his family and enjoyed spending time with the grandkids. He also enjoyed watching westerns on tv.
Robert leaves behind his five children, Cathy (Tim) Blankman, Cindy (Jeff) Allison, Mike (Allyson) Anthrop, Carey (Tim) Harris and Robert (Crystal) Anthrop, Jr.; two sisters, Judy Anthrop and Pam Bilsky; a niece; 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Michael Anthrop.
