WILSON was the son of John Baird and Nancy (Unknown) Baird. He married first Elizabeth Baird, on August 19, 1839, in Wilson County, Tennessee.

Wilson and Elizabeth were first cousins, and at the time of their marriage they were also "step-siblings." Wilson's father, John, had married Elizabeth's mother, Sarah (Bostick) Baird, who was the widow of John's brother, Wilson Baird.

Wilson and Elizabeth were the parents of 11 children--Marcus Lafayette, Sarah Emeline, William Thomas, Nancy Caroline, Mary Jemima, John Wilson, Tennessee Elizabeth, Martha Jane, Robert Clinton, Noah Franklin, and Frances Malisa Baird.

After Elizabeth's death in 1858, Wilson traveled back to Wilson County, Tennessee, and married second Mary Ann Edwards on December 22, 1859. He brought her back to his home in Gibson County, Tennessee, and they lived out the remainder of their lives there. They were the parents of one son and they also named him John Wilson Baird.
